Euro NCAP 5 Star rating proves Volvo V60 & S60 are as safe as cars get

Stereotypes usually become stereotypes because there's more than an element of truth in them. But when it comes to the stereotype of Volvos being among the safest vehicles on the road, the Volvo V60 and Volvo S60 gaining the coveted Euro NCAP 5 Star safety rating shows it's more than just an element here. With the Volvo Cars' active safety package City Safety with Autobrake technology coming as standard on all Volvos, it shouldn't come as too much of a surprise every Volvo model currently on sale that's been tested by Euro NCAP boasts the full 5 Star safety rating.

In 2018 the Euro NCAP testing regime was made tougher than it's ever been, but it hasn't proved to be a problem for Volvo. Due to the availability of such advanced safety advances as cyclist detection with autobrake and emergency lane keeping systems, the latest V60 and S60 models are easily among the safest cars in their class. The Volvo S60 5 Star NCAP and Volvo V60 5 Star NCAP ratings prove it as a fact.

Both models share Volvo's own Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform and safety technology with the XC60 SUV and the 90 series of Volvo flagship cars, and Volvo Cars' active safety package City Safety with Autobrake technology is now standard across the entire range. The City Safety feature now also engages auto braking to reduce the severity of any oncoming collisions, and it remains the only safety system currently available capable of helping to recognise pedestrians, cyclists and large animals.

There's a lot more that makes Volvo a standout brand these days than just Volvo safety though. Launched as recently as this summer, the new S60 sports saloon is the first model offered by the brand to not be available in a diesel variant. Once again, Volvo is ahead of the game by proving its commitment to being an industry leader in the electrification of its portfolio, and by illustrating there's a viable long term future beyond the realms of the traditional combustion engine.
