An announcement at the Beijing Motor Show in China heralded Volvo’s commitment to ensuring 50% of its sales worldwide will be in electric vehicles by the year 2025. The timing of this announcement about Volvo EV is particularly important, as China is the leading market in the world for electrically powered cars and 2025 is also the date by which China has committed to have 20% of new car sales based on ‘new-energy’ vehicles, that’s some seven million vehicles. To test drive any of the current Volvo hybrid-powered cars that are already available in the UK, just get in touch.
This announcement about Volvo EV follows hot on the heels of Volvo’s 2017 commitment that all its new models released from 2019 would be offered with either a mild hybrid, plug-in hybrid or fully electric powertrain. Already available in the UK as hybrid models are the Volvo XC90, XC60, V90, V60 and S90. At the Beijing show, Volvo also introduced the Volvo XC40 in a T5 plug-in hybrid version for the first time. As European Car of the Year 2018, the XC40 is set to impress in its new plug-in hybrid format.
