The all-new Volvo XC90 - a Swedish approach to luxury

The original XC90 was launched in 2002, and it revolutionised the SUV segment with its combination of space, versatility and safety. 12 years on, we’re delighted to announce the launch of the all-new 2015 Volvo XC90, with an overview of it's key USP's below.

A variety of trims and options to make your XC90 as individual as you are

The all-new XC90 is available with three trim levels from launch, the well-specified Momentum level, the stunning R-Design (pictured) and the top-of-the-range Inscription. What's more, with any number of additional options from 22" diamond-cut alloys to a full length panoramic sunroof, the all-new XC90 is fully customisable to your exact requirements.

A range of economical engines producing up to 407bhp

The all-new XC90 boasts three new engines. The new D5 Turbo-Diesel producing 225bhp with up to 49mpg (combined), the T6 Petrol producing 320bhp and the top-of-the-range T8 Plug-in Petrol Hybrid will be an extension of the Plug-in Diesel Hybrid available in the V60, with the petrol alternative offering up to 407bhp and CO2 emissions of just 49g/km. More information on the new T8 Engine can be found by clicking here.

No compromise on space or comfort. 7 individual seats. As standard.

Volvo Cars already enjoys a reputation for providing the most comfortable car seats in the industry. The new XC90 enhances this reputation by offering innovatively designed seats that also free up interior space for passengers both in the second and third seat rows, helping to make the new XC90 a genuine 7-seater.

“Just like classic Scandinavian chairs, our new seats prove that seats don’t need a lot of thick padding to be comfortable. The seat core has an ergonomic shape that resembles the human spine. A multitude of adjustment possibilities makes it possible for the individual user to create an ideal seating position,” says Robin Page, Volvo Cars’ Interior Design Director.

The Comfort seats are available with intuitive, smooth power operation, including adjustable side bolsters, seat cushion extension, multi-directional lumbar support and vertical adjustment of the headrests. Three settings can be stored in the memory. Ventilation and massage functions are optional.

In addition, an all-new optional Contour seat has been designed to offer excellent side support all the way from the shoulders to the thighs.

The second row features three individual seats with recline adjustment. The sliding function can be used to create more legroom for the passengers in the third row – or to increase loading space if the third row seats are folded flat. An integrated child booster cushion in the centre seat is optional.

The seats in the third row meanwhile offer class-leading comfort for passengers with a height up to 170 cm, and have been engineered to ensure easy ingress and egress, making this the best third row in the segment.

Buttons to be replaced by large tablet-like touch screen

The designers and engineers behind the all-new XC90 have dispensed with the normal array of buttons and replaced them with a large tablet-like touch screen, a head-up display and thumb controls on the steering wheel.

The result is the most modern in-car control system on the market, which is crucially easier to use, ensuring drivers will be able to keep their eyes on the road as much as possible while operating or making adjustments to the system. The driver also benefits from a fully connected experience as the vehicle uses integrated cloud-based applications for music streaming, internet radio and other services, such as the world’s first integrated Park and Pay application, and the ability to mirror and use Apple iOS devices in the touch screen display.

Apple CarPlay to be introduced

The XC90 also becomes the first Volvo car to offer Apple CarPlay, which brings selected features and services familiar to iPad, iPhone and iPod users directly into the car via the large centre console touch screen display. Users will immediately recognise the well-known icons for their basic Apple applications, such as phone, messages, music and navigation.

Exceptional Bowers & Wilkins Premium Sound System also available

The new Premium Sound system is comprised of a 12-channel HARMAN 1,400 watt amplifier serving a total of 19 Bowers & Wilkins speakers – 7 Nautilus tweeters (25 mm) with the latest treble technology, 7 midrange speakers (5x100 mm and 2x80 mm) with the characteristic yellow Bowers & Wilkins Kevlar cone clearly visible behind the cover, 4 cone woofers (200/165 mm) and the new, ground-breaking air-ventilated subwoofer (250 mm).

Apple carplay

The subwoofer is one of the first to be integrated into the body of the car rather than being a freestanding box that is simply bolted to it, and Michael Adenauer, former music producer and audio expert at Volvo Cars comments “This increases the subwoofer’s capacity to pulse more air, which enables extremely low bass tones all the way down to 20 Hz. In principle, it turns the whole interior space in the car into a giant subwoofer.”

“Great music and sound are among the most important factors for a truly enjoyable drive. This makes the choice of audio systems a vital part of our designed-around-you philosophy. We are very happy to be able to offer the music aficionados among the XC90 buyers one of the most desirable audio systems on the market,” said Peter Mertens, Senior Vice President, Research and Development of Volvo Car Group.

Four-zone climate control system

The all-new Volvo XC90 can be specified with a four-zone climate system with individual settings for the occupants in the front seats and in the second row. A separate air-conditioning unit for the third row is also available.

Meanwhile, Volvo's CleanZone air purification system, one of the most efficient on the market, has been further improved by adding a new filter for more efficient capture of small, harmful particles and pollen in the incoming air.

World first safety technologies

The all-new Volvo XC90 is available with two world first safety techonologies as standard. Run-off road protection ensures any potential injuries are limited by special seat-belt pre-tensioners, meanwhile Lane Keeping Aid and Driver Alert Control help limit the chances of this type of accident ever happening. Auto-brake at intersections is also available which features automatic braking if the driver turns in front of an oncoming car.

Other technologies which will also be available include Rear Crash Protection, whereby radars pick up if a rear accident is imminent and pre-charge the seat belt tensioners as well as flashing the hazard lights, in addition to Queue Assistance, City Safety and Cross Traffic Alert.
