Polestar 1 will be produced at a purpose-built facility in China, which will be completed by the middle of 2018, with the first Polestar 1 models being ready by the middle of 2019. Polestar 1 power comes from an internal combustion engine combined with an electric motor. Thanks to Polestar’s advanced engineering, this system will be capable of producing an impressive 600hp and 1,000Nm of torque. In addition, Polestar 1 will offer the best all-electric range available from a hybrid car – some 93 miles.
The Polestar 1 is a two-door, 2+2 seat, Grand Tourer Coupé. It will feature Öhlins Continuously Controlled Electronic Suspension (CESi) advanced chassis, the first car in the world to use this incredible technology. The body is made from carbon fibre to minimise weight and lower the centre of gravity, whilst it also increases torsional stiffness by 45%. There’s also a double electric rear axle, allowing the use of torque vectoring to increase the precision of acceleration and maximise grip.
Two further models have also been announced. The Polestar 2 will be a battery-electric model and will go into production in 2019, whilst the Polestar 3 will be larger and the first Polestar SUV. Polestar has moved all the ordering of its new models online, but you will still be able to see the cars at designated Polestar Places. There will be no deposits required, as ‘ownership’ will be based on a monthly subscription, payable over two or three years, covering everything from servicing to the ability to hire other cars from the Polestar and Volvo range.
