Confirming its position as the manufacturer of some of the safest cars in the world, Euro NCAP has named the Volvo XC60 as the safest large off-roader and as having the best overall safety performance of all the cars tested in 2017. This Volvo NCAP success in the Euro NCAP 2017 Best in Class safety awards was the result of excellent results across the board in all the Volvo XC60 safety tests carried out as part of the automotive safety organisation’s New Car Assessment Programme. The Volvo XC60 had some impressive scores in the Euro NCAP testing, coming out way ahead of any of its potential rivals. With scores of 98% for adult occupant safety, and 95% for its safety assist features. In fact, the Volvo XC60 safety assist technology is so impressive that it was 20 points ahead of its nearest rival in the Large Off-Road category.
The Vice President of the Volvo Cars Safety Centre was delighted with the Volvo XC60 NCAP result, saying ‘Our vision is that by 2020 no one should be killed or seriously injured in a new Volvo car. The achievements of the XC60 are examples of our commitment to developing the latest safety and support systems as we strive towards that vision.’
Volvo XC60 safety is only a part of Volvo’s success in producing the safest cars. For example, the XC60, S90 and V90 are the only cars ever to have succeeded in gaining a perfect score in Euro NCAP’s three Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) tests: the AEB City test, AEB Inter-Urban test and the AEB Pedestrian test.
