Revolutionary Hyundai IONIQ wins CarBuyer and Driving Electric Awards

Versatile, affordable, efficient and environmentally friendly Hyundai IONIQ is now a multi-award winner

The Hyundai IONIQ now has a pair of Hyundai CarBuyer and Driving Electric Awards to its credit, which certainly vindicates the manufacturer's unique philosophy of launching the IONIQ in three different variants of hybrid, plug-in hybrid and all-electric. Of course, the IONIQ is no stranger to such accolades as just over a month before it was also named Best Used Green Car by WhatCar? The Hyundai IONIQ is far and away the most versatile alternative-fuelled car available at the moment, with hybrids offering up to 68.2mpg and the all-electric version boasting up to 174 miles of zero emissions driving.

Plenty of manufacturers are now offering their popular models in hybrid or even all-electric formats as well as with traditional petrol or diesel combustion engines. That's all well and good, but those models tend to have been built on platforms designed for combustion engines and creating hybrid or electric versions often means significant compromise. Hyundai chose not to accept any such compromise when it developed the IONIQ, and that decision is paying off in a big way after the revolutionary Hyundai claimed a couple of prestigious CarBuyer and Driving Electric Awards recently.

Rather than taking an existing model and converting it to alternative fuel systems, Hyundai developed the IONIQ from scratch to accommodate electrified drivetrains and is the only model on the market available in hybrid, plug-in hybrid and all-electric variants.

Carbuyer.co.uk and DrivingElectric Editor-in-Chief, Steve Fowler said of the IONIQ: “By offering the IONIQ with a choice of hybrid, plug-in hybrid and pure electric powertrains, Hyundai created a unique proposition in the market - one that’s perfectly tailored for company car drivers looking to minimise costs. More than that, the IONIQ is practical, comfortable and good to drive in all its guises; a great company car to suit a range of usage patterns."

These latest Hyundai IONIQ awards follow hot on the heels of the car also being named Best Used Green Car by WhatCar?
